INTERVIEW WITH HAMMERFALL

HAMMERFALL REVIEWS

Taken after the Hammerfall show in the "I-Rock," Detroit, MI (during their tour in support of Death, after they were done and before Death took the stage. I spoke with Oscar Drojnak (guitar) and Joacim Cans (vocals).

Guys, that was terrific!

BOTH: Thank you.

It was so gutsy of you to tour the States. How is the tour going so far, and how is America different from Europe?

We've been to only a few cities, but the public treats us very well. Obviously, people don't know us here as well as they do in Europe. But it's actually a pleasant surprise.

There are obviously more people at our shows in Europe. But people still sing here.

Do you think metal will be back?

I think it's already making a comeback.

We are, sort of, paving the way for other European metal bands.

Yeah, that would be great! It's a darn shame, you guys are opening for Death, which, in my opinion isn't worthy to open for you. But that's just me, of course. I think you are good enough to headline.

No, that's not true, Death are great musicians.

Just not my cup of tea. I just wish you would open for Blind Guardian or Running Wild. Or Gamma Ray.

They are all great bands. We hope to bring them here next year.

I was hoping to hear "Stone Cold." But thanks for "Hammerfall" and "Child Of The Damned." That was awesome!

Unfortunately, we could fit only 10 songs into the list. Hopefully, next time.

Who's idea was it to play "Breaking The Law"? Oscar, great job!

I dunno, man, I am personally dissatisfied with my performance. Could have done better.

I guess we all just decided to switch instruments and have fun. It wasn't anybody's idea in particular.

How does the line-up look? You replaced the bassist for the second album… any changes in the future?

I don't think so. I am pretty much happy with the guys, and everybody seems to be happy with each other.

I see Death is already taking the stage. One last question: what do you listen to, when you are on the bus?

Lots of things… mostly Riot and Iron Maiden.

Thank you guys, and come back again!

BOTH: Thank you. We will.
